Shirodhara is an ancient Ayurvedic healing technique that involves having someone pour liquid — usually oil, milk, buttermilk, or kwath (medicated water) — onto your forehead. The word “Shiro” means head, and “Dhara” means flow.
- Shirodhara is also known as medicated meditation; as it has relaxing, soothing, and calming effects on both the body and mind.
Research suggests that it helps to:
- Improve sleep quality
- Manage insomnia
- Lessen anxiety (especially when combined with yoga)
- Reduce stress
