Marma Chikitsa

Marma Chikitsa, also known as Marma Therapy, is an integral part of Ayurveda.

Marma Chikitsa refers to the manipulation or stimulation of Marma points in the treatment of various ailments.

1. A Marma point is a juncture on the body where two or more types of tissue meet, such as muscles, veins, ligaments, bones, or joints, and they are the site of vital energy of the body.

2. There are 107 Marma points mapped out in detail in the classic Ayurvedic text called the “Sushruta Samhita.”

These points cover both the front and back of the body, including:

1. 22 on the lower extremities

2. 22 on the arms

3. 12 on the chest and stomach

4. 14 on the back

5. 37 on the head and neck

How Marma Chikitsa Works:

1. During Marma chikitsa or therapy, stimulation is applied to these points.

2. The goal is to remove blockages from the Marma points, leading to physical and psychological relaxation and strength.

3. Marma therapy works with subtle and sensitive energy points, opening the energy channels in the body (known as “srothas”).

Benefits of Marma Chikitsa:

1. Relief from chronic or acute pain

2. Detoxification at all levels

3. Improvement in bodily functions (immune, digestive, respiratory, neural, and psychological)

4. Healthier skin and a radiant appearance

5. Balancing body temperature and doshas (Ayurvedic constitutional types)

6. Release of neuro-chemicals (serotonin, melatonin) for improved cognitive function and better sleep.
